After retiring as a Police Officer with the New York Police Department, Carmen turned to law. She began her legal career by getting certified as a paralegal and certified as a mediator by the Ventura Center for Dispute Settlement. While in law school, Carmen interned with Jim DeSimone, now V. James DeSimone Law, and was part of the team that obtained a $2 million verdict in an excessive force case against the LAPD. In 2015, she was admitted to the California Bar.
